SEPHORA HAUL

I was just in Sephora to pick up my usual Origins A Perfect World Cleanser when I saw my local Sephora now has First Aid Beauty! I have wanted to try their face cleanser for a while now so I picked up a set that included a few other products with it.

Given that Christmas is "soon" approaching, I couldn't keep myself from looking at the different value sets. I've been getting the Sephora Favourites mascara set for years now. It's honestly the only way to buy mascara if you're like me and rarely wear makeup; it almost lasts me the year and the trial-sized tube never dries out before I've used up all the product.

I love trying new skincare products but they can be very pricey and it's hard to judge whether you will even use it. Even after reading reviews, it's hard to know what you actually want or need until you are grabbing for the product regularly. Samples and travel-sized products are perfect if you don't want to be wasteful or spend a lot of money. Value sets often include best sellers, generally at a good price, so it's not much or a risk. And honestly, who doesn't get excited about new products to try. It's what makes daily life a little bit more exciting, a little bit more fun! It reminds me of high school when I would think about my week and really the only thing that got me up quick and eager to get going in the morning was if I had new makeup to try, or an assembly or field trip that day. Anything new is mind-altering for me, it really gives me a new spring in my step, no matter how minuscule it may seem (new shampoo = an awesome week for me lol).

The rest of what I got was small, necessary, re-buys or free. The OPI glass nail file is magic. The Victoria's Secret Rockin' Body Perfecting Cream was because my Sally Hansen Air Brushed Legs got thrown out at the airport security. My eyelash curler broke last week. My birthday is November 7th so I got my Sephora birthday gift and I had 500 points and liked the gift.

I didn't get anything special that I could ask for as Christmas or birthday gifts. I'll be going though Sephora online and making a Sephora Christmas Wish List soon. But I encourage anyone to check out all the amazing sets that are out now. Blush sets, like, amazing! Also I posted some vacation pictures on my Instagram so go check that out too.

PACKING FOR VACATION

Hello lovelies,

While packing for a 7 night Dominican vacay I documented what I packed for you all. I'm such a minimalist. Just taking the basics in a carry-on. Everything is in something smaller than most people's gym bags. Mind you, my bag is FULL. I've used this bag to pack since grade 10 - that's 2006, people! It has always worked perfectly for me. Once you go big, you never can downsize and it's so easy to not check a bag.
So with out further ado, this is the most you can fit in the smallest bag for a week vacation (luckily it's 30° there).

I started by clearing out anything I need from the bathroom while I was actually getting ready for today. That way you don't forget the toothpaste amongst other little afterthoughts.

My daily make-up bag and other beauty related items. This includes q-tips, cotton pads, and mini manicure scissors (this always comes in handy, if not for me, someone will be asking around for scissors).

All bathroom and beauty items in one freezer bag. The liquids are in their own smaller freezer bag on top for easy access. Any miscellaneous items like electronic chords also are shoved in here.

I went through my closet once and threw everything I would like to wear on my bed then went through a second time with extra items for more options. 2 silk dresses, 2 beach dresses, a maxi skirt, a slip and shirt-dress, 2 beachy shorts, denim shorts, dressy shorts, all kinds of tanks, and a few T's (one a white v-neck, a must). I mean, 7 nights, I think I've got it covered, lol.

It's all much smaller folded. Don't forget intimates, sleepwear (I'm notorious for forgetting this), bathing suits, and pantyhose.

I'm going for a destination wedding; no heels, just wedges. I'm also packing my Birkenstocks and wearing a wedge. I figure footwear options are covered with a dressy wedge and sandal then a casual wedge and sandal.

Clothes, shoes, and liquids on the top. As long as I don't look like I'm struggling going through security, no one will question the weight of my bag.

The contents of my purse. Reading material, headphones, and playing cards to pass the time are really all I need plus my passport and debit.

Three magazines, an audio book, and a book I just picked up on my way to the airport, Beneath a Starlet Sky (no idea what it's about yet).

Finally, here you have it. I write this now at the airport, our flight is at 3pm and we're all cleared security. Extra liquids I couldn't be bothered separating (mascara and lipgloss lol) and my scissors still with me! Next stop Montreal! My favourite place in Canada!

Oh ya, excuse my flying ootd! I wore my wedges since they take up so much room and my husband didn't want to wrinkle his suit jacket so... I know, points for the best wife ever!

UPDATE

It has been a long time since my last post. The summer's ending had me quite busy, making it easy to neglect my blog. Sorry for the lack of content and here is what I have been up to...

First off, my first giveaway was a success! A big thank you to all of you who entered. The winner was Patricia of thestripedvent.blogspot.ca. Go check out her blog. It's a good one.

Of all the recent changes in my life, the most significant would definitely have to be my move. Not far, we are still in Victoria, BC. But, me and my husband bought our first place together!! It's a one-bedroom condo downtown. We love it.  It's perfect for us!
We are moved-in, but furnishing it slowly. All the basics are covered, but we still need a bed, a large mirror, a tea pot (well, this is definitely a necessary basic, but I'm picky), and all kinds of accents and decorations (including a fireplace, hopefully). We just got our internet and cable this Tuesday, so it's now a pretty functioning home.

The juicer and our little wood stump table are the best purchases we've made for the place. I'm obsessed with my juicer (Breville Fountain Plus)! This was the first time we used it. Please excuse my moving in/cleaning clothes and the huge mess that was our kitchen.

In other news, my sister had another baby, a girl. It's the third time she's made me an auntie and I absolutely adore her beautiful family.

My father came to BC for a visit and we all went on a short family vacay to Harrison Hot Springs. My sisters live on the mainland, so it was us all, and our husbands, etc. Growing up really adds to the number of family members but sure makes for eventful family fun!

I saw Britney!

Yes, that close to Britney. It was epic! I went to Vegas for a weekend bachelorette trip. It was truly unforgettable, as was this very lucky bride's wedding shower.

Which leads me into this weekend, Thanksgiving weekend for us Canadians. My sister and her husband are visiting for the weekend and then I'm off to the Dominican Sunday afternoon for a wedding.

Here are are few more pictures to fill in the blanks. After all, a picture says a thousand words...

At gymnastics, which is so much fun! Such a cute big brother and how precious are my sister's offspring!?

My good friend Kate has been with me practically everyday helping with the new place or to entertain each other. In any case, this is her pup, a hyper-balding Pomeranian.

More nightlife in Vegas. The gracious host - far right, the bride - second from the right, me - third from the left, and the bride's gorgeous friends between.

This cake though!

Wishing all my fellow Canadians a Happy Thanksgiving long weekend. I hope everyone can find something to be grateful for, big or small.
